Cloth baby wipes

A few people have asked what I am going to do about baby wipes - am I going cloth with those too? The answer is that I would like to. I am going to try. I have heard of 3 ways to do this. Most of them suggest using a wipes warmer to keep the cloth wipes warm and wet, although I am also considering this awesome plastic container from SkipHop to take along in the diaper bag. I have a Munchkin wipes warmer already that I bought for $5 at a garage sale, barely used. If it doesn't work out, no loss. I can use a tupperware container that doesn't warm.

The 3 methods I have heard suggested:
  • Water only - just wet cloth wipes in the warmer or plastic container. I don't like this one as much because it seems like there should be some kind of cleaning solution involved. I have seen baby poop!!
  • Water plus a few drops of mild soap such as Dr. Bronner's (I love the peppermint, although they also have an unscented baby versions)
  • A concoction of water, baby oil, and baby wash...this one is too complex for me. I am under no delusions that I will have the time or inclination to keep up this kind of mixing long-term.
So, the plan right now is to try option #2 which was suggested by Elizabeth and seems sustainable - she used it throughout the time her daughter was in diapers. For times when we are traveling or have to put the baby in nursery at church, I am just fine using the disposable biodegradable wipes with no chlorine in them, just as I plan to use disposable biodegradable diapers with no chlorine at those times, and for when the baby is newborn and too small for the BumGenius cloth diapers. I think the key is flexibility when it isn't possible, and trying out different options when it is possible. At least, that is the plan for now!

Finding baby wipes that are biodegradable as well as chlorine free and actually work is real detective work. Thank you for your suggestions. Baby wipes are necessary and used often, so if they could make them environmentally friendly it would be a huge benefit to everyone.
