OK I have a question for all the moms out there regarding middle-of-the-night feedings.
Right now Little Sir does still wake up once at 3 or 4 AM for food. The only way we know he is up is that he starts crying. He increases the volume and insistence of his crying until the food hits his mouth, if you know what I mean. It's not too hard for me to get to him and nurse him pretty quickly before the crying is urgent. But, if his dad attempts to get up instead, it takes 15 minutes or more to heat up a bottle of expressed milk. By then, Little Sir has been SCREAMING like a maniac for 15-20 minutes. A pacifier does nothing, he knows that's not food.
The problem is, there is no way I can sleep through 15-20 minutes of screaming while the bottle is being heated. So honestly, there is no way Christian can give me a break for that overnight feeding - I don't care where in the house they are, the crying is deafening by the time the bottle is heated and there is no way anyone could sleep through it.
How do people typically handle this? I always hear about this "great debate" regarding who gets up with the baby. I have no idea how this could be even an issue since there is no way Christian could do the feeding?? I would love to have a break once in a while from the middle-of-the-night feeding but so far that has been completely unsuccessful. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong here?

You are not doing anything wrong. It's normal. I used ear plugs when I wanted a break from the middle-of-the-night feedings. H always seems to be a lot louder when his dad is up with him.

Will the little guy take a cold bottle? Kyle did the exact same thing to us and we finally stopped heating the bottles and just gave them to him cold. He didn't mind at all.

My little guy still won't take a cold bottle and we're getting ready to transition to cow's milk. He is also super picky about the taste of his formula and food. If you have issues with that later, let me know. I have some tips and tricks. Anyway, if the cold bottles don't work, have you considered another bottle warmer? My inexpensive Munchkin bottle warmer warms up Dex's 8 ounce Brown bottles in 5 minutes - and not room temperature - warm. I also second Olga's suggestion. That's exactly what I did. I slept in another room, stuffed a towel in the crack underneath the door and put on earplugs. That USUALLY kept me from being able to hear my little guy. Until Little Sir's sleeping through the night, you've got to do what you can to get through these next few weeks / months!!!
we had the same issue -- i just got up for the first six weeks in the middle of the night, but then he was sleeping midnight to 5 or 6, which i consider "through the night" sleeping. one thought though, if you KNOW he'll get up at 3am, leave the bottle out of the fridge starting at midnight -- then at least it's room temp when christian tries to warm it and it will take far less time to heat up. you'll be through this stage in no time, i promise! hang in there.
We struggled with the same issue when R was a baby. I took my midwife's suggestion of nursing in bed, which was a sanity-saver for me. When R woke up in the night, I would just bring her into bed, get her latched on and I would go back to sleep.

What size bottles are you using? Maybe try heating a small one (I have tons of 2oz bottles you can use), and while he's sucking that down, the big one can be heating? Otherwise, sounds like you may need a new method for heating - 15 min is way too long!
Take heart, though - he'll be sleeping through the night soon!
When we had ours they got formula on the overnight feeding if my husband was getting up - it also helped because if we were going somewhere that was inconvient to nurse or carry breast milk they were already used to have formula every so often.

faster heating time or try room temp formula for that one feeding. That means all he has to do is mix it and that shouldn't take but a minute or less. It's not like formula is bad for him, it's just that breastmilk is better. But don't you need to pump regardless? I don't know. If Little Sir is good with breastfeeding it probably won't take him longer than 20 minutes to eat. Maybe just go ahead and do it. Quickly. Then back to bed. Not sure I would fall back asleep with him nursing in bed though. That might lead to a scary disaster.
Thank you so much, everybody! We did get a bottle warmer because we need one for the nanny anyway, so we might go ahead and try that one day. Cause wouldn't he have to heat formula just the same as breast milk? I do pump anyway, all day long for the nanny to use. But I also not opposed to seeing if he would take it cold, or at least not super-warm. I am going to look up how long the breast milk can sit at room temperature as well...
